province, lying in the south of Central Viet Nam, 200km away
from HoChiMinh city, with nearly 200km of coastline which
makes up beautiful beaches for tourists.
This town is well-known for fishing
industry and the popular Vietnamese fish sauce. Off PhanThiet

MuiNe has become
more and more popular with desolated and primitive beaches,
still untouched by tourists. Stretching on long white sandy
beach, listening to quiet waves ripples, visitors will feel
completely relaxed after tense working days.
The most
impressive sight in MuiNe is the huge golden sand dunes which
have inspired a great number of art photographers and movie
produces.
MuiNe is located 24 km north-east of the town of PhanThiet. It is a
fishing village as well as a familiar tourism area in BinhThuan
Province. It is found on Highway No. 706, and features sweeping sand
dunes and beautiful rows of palm trees. The beach is shallow and
sloped, the water is clean and blue and the sun rarely hides behind
clouds. There are desolate and primeval beaches that have never
witnessed human exploitation as well as imposing landscapes. There
is also DoiCat (Sand Hill), which has long been a creative subject
of artistic photographs and paintings. Besides beaches and sand
dunes, there are also beautiful landscapes such as SuoiTien (Fairy
Spring), the OngHoang Building and the Poshanu Cham Tower.
MuiNe
has long been considered the "Hawaii" of Vietnam. It
boasts shady roads under coconut trees, a beautiful beach and cliffs
battered by the waves of the sea. The typical scenery of MuiNe lies
in the moving lines of golden sand caused by the wind and when they
are seen from afar they look like moving waves. The scenery looks
more fascinating at dawn, when young Cham girls in green dresses go
to work. That's why no photographer fails to visit this area. MuiNe
is an ideal place for rest and relaxation. Visitors can certainly

Fishing
Harbour - Phan Thiet |
PhanThiet is the largest town in BinhThuan province with an estimated population of close to
100,000 people. The town sits on the borders of CaTy river,
is 20 Km from the ocean and swells with boats during the
fishing season in the summer months.
Fishing is largest industry
in PhanThiet.
According to local statistics, some 100 different varieties of
fishes are caught here with an annual yield of over 70,000
tons. As a result, PhanThiet is famous for its "NuocMam" (fish
sauce), a seasoning used in Vietnamese cuisine.
Most
visitors to PhanThiet will notice the pungent odor that is
associated with fish sauce production. This is a process where
anchovy like fishes are caught, cleaned and place in large
vats of brine. The whole concoction is cured over a period
of eight months to a year before the fish by-products are
strained and the liquid is then diluted into less concentrated
solutions to be bottled. Fish sauce from PhanThiet is
available throughout Vietnam.
Today, the annual
production of "nuocmam" in PhanThiet is 16-17 million liters
per annum. The salt used in the production of fish sauce is
also a local product of BinhThuan province. Although fishing
is a big industry in PhanThiet, it still remains a family
business for many people in the region. While the men are out
at sea, women and children often stay home to support the
business by mending nets and tending to shore related
chores.
With only a 10% humidity during most of the
year, BinhThuan is the driest province in Vietnam. Most of
its terrain consist of rocky mountains and sandy hills.
Agriculture is almost non existent since few crops can grow on
this arid land. A few kilometers East of PhanThiet are
some of the most beautiful stretches of beaches in Vietnam.
Some are lined with tall coconut trees, others lean against
vast red sand dunes.
During the period between July and
October, the fishing season is at its pinnacle in PhanThiet
as fishermen go out to sea. These boats form a magnificent
display of lights at night and can be seen from shore. In
fact, the scene is liken to a floating city by the locals.
THUY
TU FISHERMEN'S ASSOCIATION
ThuyTu
fishermen's association was first established by ThuyTu fishermen
in 1762 for worshiping "CaOng" (the whale) with the central
chamber, the house for worshiping "TienHien”, the one for
Song - Dance group, they were arranged in the form of the word Tam
with the main side toward the East. When it was just finished, its
gate was very near right the seashore. Nowadays the seashore is over
100 meters far from here. Now ThuyTu fishermen's association is
situated on NguOng Street, DucThang quarter, PhanThiet city.
Different from the village's communal house often built for
worshiping the village's Tutelary God and located in the
agricultural village, the fishermen's
association
is often constructed for worshiping the whale (CaOng) and located
very near right the seashore of the fishing village. Most of BlnhThuan's
fishing villages have got fishermen's
associations
and temples for worshiping the whale (CaOng)
- the God who has helped and saved fishermen when they meet
accidents on the sea according to their opinion. And this God is
always loyal to fishermen; therefore they love and respect this God
all the time. The folk religion has connected with the job religion
from this generation-to-generation according to fishermen's customs
and traditions.
Since the day of finishing until now, ThuyTu fishermen's
association has contained nearly 100 bone skeletons of whales and
many other species of the same family. Over half of them have got
the epoch of over 100 to 150 years; among them the big bone
skeletons have been worshiped solemnly. In its campus, there is a
large land bridge used to bury the whale when he "dies"
and drifts onto the seashore from the sea. And his bone skeleton
will be placed into a tomb according to the custom after 3 years'
burial service. Among the fishermen, if anyone sees "Ong"
first, this fisherman will become " His" eldest child and
have to hold a funeral perfectly and 3 years of mourning... and so
on. That shows fishermen's customs and behaviors toward " CaOng" - the whale - according to their religion are nearly the
same as the relationship between people and people.

ThuyTu fishermen's association is one of the most ancient one in BinhThuan's fishing villages, the
local fishermen consider it as the first sea ancestor of the sea
fishing job. It has contained many Chinese - Vietnamese cultural
heritages related to the sea fishing job, expressing the worshiping
content in the shrines, worshiped statues, horizontal boards
inscribed with Chinese characters, parallel scrolls, in the bell
record of the Great Bell. ThuyTu fishermen's association is one
of the ancient places of historical interest with a large amount of
nominations granted by Nguyen Dynasty's Kings for worshiping "
CaOng" - the whale and the Sea Gods because in the feudal
war against TaySon righteous volunteers, Nguyen Dynasty's
generals and commanders were once rescued many time by the whale on
the sea. It has got 24 nominations granted by the Kings: ThieuTri,
TuDuc,
DongKhanh, DuyTan, KhaiDinh,
privately King ThieuTri
(1841
- 1847) granted 10 nominations and this is the rare thing compared
with other places of historical interest.
The
Government classified ThuyTu fishermen's association as the
National Historical place of interest in 1996.

BauTrang with
lotus in Spring |
BauTrang is a fresh-water lake, once belonging to BinhNhon commune,
HoaDa district, BinhThuan province; now HongLam hamlet, HoaThang
commune, BacBinh district, about 65km North East of PhanThiet
city. BauTrang has been formed for a very long time, located in the
middle of vast large sand dune area alternated by many groups of
short forest trees. The lake water is very fresh and clear. From the
distance, we can see a mild cool green color covering the white sand
dunes. BauTrang is divided into 2 parts by a crossing sand dune. The
local people here called them "BauOng" and "BauBa" formerly; although it is a water pond formed by Nature,
the local people still show their gratitude to it because it has
provided the water source to support the local people and forest
animals here in the dry season.
The
deepest place of BauTrang is 19 meters, and shallower toward the bank. Around the bank, there are a lot of
lotus, in summer they are in full bloom adorning this white sand area with more
bright colors. A long time ago, around BauTrang there were many villages of the ancient Cham people living and using the lake water
source. The Cham people erected The Temple to worship Goddess Thien-Y-Ana. When they left this area to come to other places, this temple
was also collapsed and now there are its ancient relics left in the
South of BauTrang. This was the
vestige of a historical period about the Cham people's natural
conquer here before the Vietnamese people came.BauTrang is not only
the place to supply fresh wate |
